SERPENT is network of world-class scientific research groups that work with the global oil and gas industry to use industrial remotely operated vehicles for primarily deep sea science. SERPENT is led by researchers within the Deepseas Group of the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton. SERPENT has two core research areas:
- Deep-sea biodiversity and ecosystem function
- Assessment of disturbance and recovery from hydrocarbon industry activities
SERPENT has a strong track-record of producing high-quality scientific publications. We also maintain a growing collection of sediment and faunal samples as well as a leading database of deep-water images and video.
